Champ sparks hopes for Waverley

WAVERLEY Golf Club's chances of winning this year's pennant have been given a boost with the addition of England international Todd Adcock.

The Sussex-based Adcock, who won the 2008 English amateur championship, will play in the Victoria Golf Association's Pennant Series that runs from March to May, as well as competing in the Australian amateur championships.

Adcock made his debut for England in 2008 at the Home Internationals in Scotland, and also played against Spain at

La Reserva last year. The 24 year old has come to Australia before, representing the English Golf Union in the Federal Amateur two years ago.

The pennant series is a club competition dating back to 1899 when it involved five clubs.

This year, 44 clubs will compete in six divisions under a promotion and relegation system.

Weekly matches will be played at different venues on a round robin basis between teams of seven players.
