Sanders, of Narre Warren, was crowned the all-round champion at the level 9 national titles in Western Australia earlier this year.

The 15 year old's win follows her performance at the state championship in June at the Netball and Hockey Centre.

As well as winning gold as the all-round champion, she also took top honours on the bars and beam and claimed a further three bronze medals. Waverley Gymnastics Club won the team event.

Despite a rigorous training regime, Sanders said it was important to have a life balance.

"I train 25 hours a week, every day after and before school. I start the day by doing my routines. To do this, I get out there by 6am each day to train for three hours before I go to school."

A career highlight was representing Waverley in Calgary, Canada, at the Jurassic Classic.

Her ambition is to move to level 10 competition and represent Australia. The year 9 student, who started the sport at five, dreams of a perfect 10.

"The only challenge I face is to get over my fears. It is hard to be a gymnast, to get that perfect score. I've got to get over a lot of anxiousness - that mental aspect is the hardest work. And while I'm better at floor work and can tumble well, I've got to work at my flexibility. But I love gym. I love to compete and to show off my new moves. I've learnt a lot from other gymnasts and made friends along the way. It's fun and people at school are supportive of my training schedule."
