Caravan lines up more gigs

21 Dec, 2009 03:00 AM
THE Caravan Music Club will launch on New Year's Eve with a celebration of soul music at the Oakleigh-Carnegie RSL.

The initiative will follow on from a series of gigs at the Oakleigh Bowling Club over the past 2? years.

Event organiser Peter Foley said The Caravan Music Club would hold gigs most Friday and Saturday nights and establish a "friendly, relaxed atmosphere with great music".

"There are people in their 30s with young families and who don't get to go out very much and we would encourage them to come along," he said.

"We will probably do about 80 gigs next year, which is double the number we did this year."

In addition to music, The Caravan Music Club intends to show outdoor cinema and offer dance and singing classes, art exhibitions, theatre productions and comedy.

Mr Foley hopes to build on the reputation established at the Oakleigh Bowling Club and said there would be a mix of different types of music on offer in 2010.

The Summer Soul Shakedown Party on New Year's Eve will be headlined by renowned soul musician Continental Robert and feature an eight-piece band.

"Continental Robert is the king of soul music in Australia," Mr Foley said. "We have put together an all-star band with a brass section."

Multi-instrumentalist Andy Baylor and Tracey Miller and the Soulettes will also be performing.

Ms Miller said she had performed with a similar line-up in the past and it had been a sell-out success.

"We are going to be playing a whole lot of songs that Robert was famous for with his band, Dynamic Hepnotics, but we will also be playing quite a few well-known soul numbers."

Tickets to the Summer Soul Shakedown Party can be bought at www.moshtix.com.au or from Peter Foley on 0411569180.
