Bailey’s battle inspires readers

26 Oct, 2009 01:00 AM
RESIDENTS have opened their hearts to donate generously to Monash Medical Centre patient Bailey Timms.

Earlier this month, the Journal reported that the fouryearold was facing the fight of his life, suffering epilepsy and osteoporosis, and being prone to bouts of pneumonia.

The Timms family had been seeking assistance to buy a modified car seat, and a hoist for their bathroom to support Bailey.

Since the story, the Journal has been inundated with calls and emails, with readers showing their support for the Lysterfield resident.

Donations of various amounts have been pledged by readers, including a cheque of $2000 received from one reader, who wished to remain anonymous.

Mrs Timms thanked readers for their help. "I'd love to thank everyone from the bottom of our heart. It's an amazing help for us."

Mrs Timms said the family was planning to borrow a hoist to support Bailey getting in and out of the bath, before buying a second-hand one. He will also need to be fitted with a new splint.

"What Bailey's been through, and we still don't know when he's going to leave us, we needed help. Thanks so much [to everyone."

She described her son as a fantastic boy. "I didn't want to get my hopes up. It's been an amazing response."

All money donated will go directly into Bailey's bank account.

People still wishing to contribute can call 87275225 or email journal@fairfaxmedia.com.au
