Ambos step up campaign with free patient travel

29 Jun, 2009 10:15 AM
PATIENTS received free ambulance transport last week as paramedics continued their campaign against ongoing fatigue issues.

Last Friday and Saturday, paramedics across Victoria refused to record patient billing data for the first four hours of each shift in a bid to pressure the State Government into supporting their call for minimum 10-hour rest breaks.

The move was expected to starve Ambulance Victoria of tens of thousands of dollars in revenue.

Ambulance Employees Australia state secretary Steve McGhie said the action aimed to increase the pressure on Ambulance Victoria and Premier John Brumby to solve "the crisis in Victoria's ambulance service".
